Our primary objective in publishing Emory web sites is to communicate our part of the university's message about its vision and mission, while making it easy for online visitors to find and use what they need among all the many sites within the university's overall web presence.
Millions of people visit one or more sites at Emory every month. These visitors see Emory as a single organization -- the "Big E." They don't think of Emory as the collection of distinct schools, divisions, offices and departments we experience as students, staff and faculty. They just want the information, in a hurry.
Your site may be Emory's only chance to make a lasting impression on many visitors. It's very important that all our sites look and feel like they belong to the same institution. Consistency in design, navigation, function and message is the key to this. Departments and school sites should reflect individual flavor and character within guidelines that users will recognize as "Emory."
The Standard Templates design was created in conjunction with the main university site, and the similar "look and feel" makes it readily apparent to visitors that departments using the template design are part of Emory's web presence.
